Content
Instruction encompasses introductory lectures on the characteristics of the periods, on the one hand and, on the other hand, analyses of various characteristics of cultural forms of expression such as literature, architecture, painting, music, film, etc. The course will thematise different cultural concepts and their political, aesthetic and mindset-historical functions. Instruction may be organised in thematic blocks that deal with specific periods with a collective issue in focus.
Forms of instruction and work
Instruction consists of classes with presentations by the university teacher, as well as in analyses and discussions of the subjects examined in the light of various materials.
Instruction is organised in such a way that it upholds the humanities model of active learning and stimulating teaching outlined in § 7.
At the start of the course, the university teacher will inform the students about the organisation of study activities. Reservation is made for eventual changes in class size/composition, classrooms, new supporting activities, use of IT, etc.

Each semester, one or more presentations will be given on the German language area´s cultural and literary history of max. 250 pages (textbook material) as well as approx. 400 pages text samples and any other materials.

Description
An individual restricted, written examination under supervision in German in two parts, which will examine (a) cultural and literary historic general knowledge (b) the general understanding of the cultural and literary historical contexts in the periods covered.

Additional information
In line with the Grading Scale Order and in consideration of the examination form and level of the BA course 3rd semester, emphasis is placed on the degree to which the student’s presentation fulfils the above-mentioned learning objectives. Further emphasis in the assessment is placed on the degree to which the student masters the general competences outlined in § 2, especially points 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 13 and 15.The grade is awarded in relation to the degree of fulfilment of the learning objectives as outlined in the Grading Scale Order.
