The course builds on the course MM562:  Advanced Linear Algebra, which is in the first half of the spring semester.

Academic preconditions

The contents of the 1st semester courses of Mathematics and/or Applied Mathematics, as well as MM562: Advanced Linear Algebra.

Course introduction

The students must plan and carry out an elected project from among a number of proposals dealing with linear algebra, thereby acquiring skills in cooperation, communication, experience sharing, scientific method and in handling a scientific problem. The specific professional competences will depend on project selection and are described in the project descriptions.

Expected learning outcome

At the end of the course, the student is expected to be able to:
  • plan and implement a project based on a scientific problem
  • handle the most common IT tools, communicate, collaborate and share knowledge
  • make a report within the selected project topic
  • carry out a thorough literature search which is used for analysis and discussion in connection with both the written work and the oral presentation and defense at an exam seminar
  • give an oral presentation of the project at an exam seminar.
  • discuss and justify key aspects of the project in the oral defence.
  • demonstrate overview and ability to integrate key aspects of the project in the oral defence.
