•Basic software engineering knowledge (principles, methods, and tools)
•Basic programming skills
•Experiences in project- and team work (e.g., gathered in semester projects)

Note: Instead of the long terms “IT Project” and/or “Software (Development) Project”, in the following, the term project is used synonymously.
Learning objectives - Knowledge
•Formal knowledge about organization- and project structures
•Formal knowledge about software and project life cycles
•Knowledge about general project management techniques, including organization tasks, project planning, project estimation
•Knowledge about project measurement (incl. metrics, measurement, etc.)
•Knowledge about organizations in a global and cultural context, and the relation of culture to project management
•Understanding of how all the tasks relate to each other
•Understanding of required knowledge to set up and operate a project
Learning objectives - Skills
•Conduct pre-project studies to boil down a set of problems, wishes, and visions to a sound project proposal
•Set up a project, incl. definition of project scope, setting up basic management procedures, and documenting all this in the respective management documents
•Estimate and plan a software/project
•Operate a project (incl. monitoring, measurement, controlling, and reporting)
•Ability to operate in culturally diverse companies and organizations
Learning objectives - Competences
Organize, manage, and implement a pre-project study for Acquisition or development of an IT system and a subsequent implementation project, including:
•Understand a company's business and IT strategy (e.g., goals, needs, and opportunities) and the role of projects in this context
•Design a project vision (incl. initial requirements, initial project- and team organization, and initial project estimations and forecasts) to set up a project
•Conduct a risk analysis to evaluate the vision’s alignment with business goals, risk, and opportunities
•Perform the project set up (incl. project management and organization tasks)
•Understand the role of culture in projects and decision making in cross-cultural settings
Organize and manage an IT project, including:
•Management challenges and responsibilities of the project
•Performing standard project management tasks (incl. project planning, cost/effort estimation, risk management, change management, and so forth)
•Project controlling (i.e. monitoring, measurement, project controlling)
•Project Life Cycle Management (i.e. project operation and transition into operation)

The teaching is organized in accordance with the DSMI.

The student’s proficiency and participation is evaluated regularly through a number of exam activities which are gathered in the student’s individual portfolio. This could include multiple choice, multiple answer, essay, hot spot, matching, short answer, simulations etc.
