Learnings objectives - Knowledge

After completing the course, the student shall be able to

  • demonstrate knowledge of different communication theories that are related to and relevant to organisations' communication policies, both internally and externally
  • demonstrate knowledge of various relevant genres in traditional and digital media

Learning objectives - Skills

After completing the course, the student shall be able to

  • independently analyse, assess and discuss the correlation between organisations' communication policy and the chosen genres
  • be critical in the selection of media, genre and language strategies in relation to a defined situation and recipient group

Learning objectives - Competences

  • on a methodological basis present constructively formulated professional criticism, including linguistic review, and perform evaluation of the communication

Content

An introduction to communication theory issues is given with a focus on the genres that typically exist in the organisation's internal and external communication. On this basis, analysis exercises and exercises in practical and written communication are performed. Written work is primarily done with independent preparation of texts within relevant genres based on a written proposal, with linguistic revision and, to a lesser extent, translation of texts from Danish to foreign languages. Oral work is especially done with assignments and cases that reflect the organisation's internal communication and the external communication with organisations in the foreign language area.

Written and oral work is done with genres/themes such as company presentations, press releases, advertisements, vacancy notices, CVs, memos and e-mails as well as other digital communications.

The course strives to continuously coordinate with, and define in relation to, themes that are discussed in the subject Texts in Use.

Forms of instruction and work

Teaching is organised in such a way as to support the humanities model for active learning and activating teaching, cf. section Didactic, pedagogical basis and contact to research environment in the curriculum. The teacher must inform students about how study activities are organised on commencement of teaching.

The activities in the course are primarily aimed at achieving learning objectives and preparing students for the form of examination portfolio.

The teaching of the course activates the student in the following teaching spaces/learning spaces:

  • Teaching space where the university teacher has the responsibility for planning and is present
  • Study space where the university teacher has the responsibility for planning but is not present
  • Teaching space where the university teacher is present but the students have the responsibility for planning specific sub-activities

Workload

5 ECTS is equivalent to 140 working hours. The working hours are distributed between the activities described in the humanities model and listed under Forms of instruction and work as well as the exam including the preparation of this. The university teacher will provide an indicative distribution of the workload at the beginning of the course.
