A supervisor contract and project statement must be handed in.
Submission is conducted electronically via spoc.sdu.dk/form/1137/submit. Submission must take place no later than 1 week after the semester has started, but is recommended, that it is handed in as soon as possible. The contract must be approved by supervisor, teaching committee and the head of studies.
Please note: If the project is carried out in a group, only one joint contract is to be handed in, stating the names of all group members.

Be aware that it is not possible to fill in the form after deadline of submission, since the application system will shut down. The system will reopen in connection with the next course registration, then you can fill out the form for the next semester.

Remember BMB Affiliation for Your Project
It is a requirement that all projects have a supervisor affiliated with the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB). This applies regardless of where the project is carried out.

To have your Bachelor’s project approved, the following supervisor requirements must be met:

Project at BMB: Requires one internal supervisor from the department.
Project outside BMB: Requires a main supervisor from the department where the project is carried out + a co-supervisor from BMB.

Note: It is your responsibility to ensure that at least one of your supervisors is affiliated with BMB.

Course introduction

The purpose of the bachelor's project is to introduce the student to conducting a small-scale, research-oriented project. The student is trained to acquire a fundamental understanding of the chosen subject area, to identify and formulate a relatively straightforward scientific problem (with guidance from the supervisor), and subsequently to address the problem in a scientific manner, incorporating relevant scientific literature. The project should be designed to address a well-defined and relevant topic within the biomedical field, and the work may be based on experimental investigations (including laboratory experiments) and/or theoretical studies. An introduction to searching for and utilizing scientific literature to support the research constitutes an essential part of the course.

The bachelor project includes:

An independent delineation, solution, and contextualization of the chosen topic. The project is concluded with a written report.

Expected learning outcome

The bachelor's project will provide the student with knowledge on how to formulate and investigate a scientific problem. The student will learn to incorporate relevant primary scientific literature and information to address the project’s research question. The project will train the student to work independently and develop skills in articulating scientific arguments and critically evaluating both their own results and those of others.

The report must demonstrate that the student has acquired the subject-specific knowledge and the theoretical and methodological qualifications needed to formulate and attempt to solve a problem within a defined academic area. Additionally, it should show the student’s ability to reflect on the applied theory, analyse, and draw conclusions from the sources utilised.

Content

A bachelor's project must be conducted within the biomedical field. The topic of the project is determined in collaboration with a supervisor, and the project description is approved as part of the project contract by the supervisor, the department, and the head of studies.

Additional information

The bachelor's project may be carried out in groups of no more than 4 students. If the project is carried out in a group, the report will be part of the assessment at an individual oral examination at a later date. The report may be written in Danish or English.
