Academic preconditions

The course NAT805: Subject didactics, subjects and interdisciplinarity in science Is recommended known.

Course introduction

The course provides students with theoretical and practical experiences in designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating teaching in the natural sciences on a scientific basis. The course introduces instructional design as a tool for integrating subject didactic theory and practice.

Participation in a specific school practice in a Danish high school enables students to test their knowledge of learning and teaching in practice. Furthermore, students participate in a collaborative process following the lesson study format, where before and after participating in the specific school practice, they reflect on the consequences of the didactic choices made in the design and planning phase.

Expected learning outcome

At the end of the course, the student is expected to:

  • Account for and argue why a selected subject theme should be included in the teaching situation,
  • Account for and argue for the design, planning, implementation, and evaluation of a specific teaching activity conducted by the student.
  • Analyze the connection between the execution of the specific teaching activity and the high school students' learning outcomes based on collective reflection in lesson studies.

Content

  • Design of teaching on a scientific basis
  • Theoretical grounding and systematic empirical approach to teaching practice
  • Internship at an educational institution (SDU has an existing collaboration with several high schools in Funen, but there is also the possibility to find an internship independently)
  • Lesson studies as a collective tool for post-processing of teaching design, planning, and execution
