
NAT817: Oral Science Communication

In Spring 2025, the course wild be held at the campus in Odense.
The course is held with 1 class in spring and 2 classes in autumn. There is room for a maximum of 30 students per class.
Spring semester: Friday-Sunday week 9, 12 and 21
Autumn semester: Friday-Sunday weeks 38, 40 and 41. EVs. Class 2 is Friday-Sunday weeks 45, 47 and 48
Participant restriction
The course has participant restriction. The following criteria are emphasized in the order below when allocating places:
- Students who have earned the most ECTS in the master's program have first priority
- Students who are admitted conditionally to the master's program then have priority
- Students who take master's courses at the same time as their bachelor's program (dispensation for 30 ECTS master's courses) then have priority
- Bachelor students
If there are equal points among students in groups 1 to 4, lots are drawn.
The academic environments at the Faculty of Science are responsible for prioritization, and a waiting list is created. Students who are not admitted to the course, but are placed on a waiting list, are notified by the faculty. The waiting list is not carried over to the following year.It is important to attend the first day of the course or inform the teacher, as there is a waiting list for the course.

- Provide competence for insight into one's own communication skills
- Provide skills in oral communication and teaching in different setting and situations, both live and online.
- Provide knowledge of oral communication.
Expected learning outcome
- Structure an oral presentation as a narrative that excites and engages the listener
- Communicate research-based knowledge to colleagues and the public in an engaging way and with the greatest possible professionalism
- Communicate in different setting and situations, both live and online.
- Explain the importance of body language, voice, space and technical aids in an oral presentation.
- Become better at dealing with nervousness in the face of larger gatherings, both live and online.
