Master thesis for completion of the continuing education programme "Master i Matematik".

A supervisor contract and project statement must be handed in.

Submission is conducted electronically via https://spoc.sdu.dk/form/ 5086 /submit. Submission must take place no later than 1 week after the semester has started, but is recommended, that it is handed in as soon as possible. The contract must be approved by supervisor, teaching committee and the head of studies.

Be aware that it is not possible to fill in the form after deadline of submission, since the application system will shut down. The system will reopen in connection with the next course registration, then you can fill out the form for the next semester.

Entry requirements

The constituting courses in the Master programme (or equivalent) must be completed prior to the Master project.

Course introduction

The aim of the Master project is that the student demonstrates the self-reliant ability to define a problem statement with relevance to the teaching of mathematics at the gymnasium level.
The Master project wraps up the continuing education programme and exploits the full potential of the education programme's courses.

Expected learning outcome

At the conclusion of the thesis, the student should be able to:

  • relate the project's subject matter to  the domain of gymnasium-level education.
  • plan and apply methods from mathematical and other sciences to solving the stated problems.
  • explain the scientific theories and models
  • present the obtained knowledge and insight in a precise and intelligible language – in both oral and written form.

Content

The project is contained within a branch of mathematics, mathematical education or philosophy of mathematics.

Additional information

Submitted project on a maximum of 60 standard pages incl. notes and bibliography, followed by 45 minutes of examination incl. deliberation. The oral examination is based on the master's thesis and addresses a problem that the student has formulated and which is approved by the examiner. The chosen issue must be related to the relevance to upper secondary education. If the master's thesis is written in Danish, it must be provided with a summary in English.
