Spanish Society and History 1

The student possesses

• a basic knowledge of a number of important current socio-economic and political issues in Spanish society today. 
• an overview of the major contours of Spain's history with a focus on the 20th and 21st centuries and selected historical periods in the preceding eras. 

The student is able to

• incorporate the major historic contours in an understanding of current societal issues in Spain. 

• Relate critically to various text genres and discuss their application in responding to concrete historical and social issues. 
• Discuss the relationship between specific issues and the social and historical context of which they are a part.

Instruction is organised in such a way that it upholds the humanities model of active learning and stimulating teaching. At the start of the course, the university teacher will inform the students about the organisation of study activities.

Teaching takes the form of lectures, exercises with discussion of texts, images, tables, etc. and more participantcentred forms such as buzz groups and student presentations. There is the possibility of 1 writing exercise.
