Overall description learning objectives

Instruction will be organised with a focus on the central learning objectives for students as set out below. This will be supported by the chosen method of assessment, which will test and further students’ knowledge, skills and competences.

Learnings objectives - Knowledge

The student possesses

  • a basic knowledge of a number of important current socio-economic and political issues in Spanish society today. 
  • an overview of the major contours of Spain's history with a focus on the 20th and 21st centuries and selected historical periods in the preceding eras.

  • incorporate the major historic contours in an understanding of current societal issues in Spain.

 The student is able to
  • Relate critically to various text genres and discuss their application in responding to concrete historical and social issues. 
  • Discuss the relationship between specific issues and the social and historical context of which they are a part.

Content

The course is based on a number of current societal questions, which are analysed and discussed with the incorporation of relevant knowledge about the historical development and Spain's international position.

On the basis of the selected questions, an introduction will be given to the broad contours of Spain's historical development, with special focus on their regional and international position and role.

Forms of instruction and work

Instruction is organised in such a way that it upholds the humanities model of active learning and stimulating teaching. At the start of the course, the university teacher will inform the students about the organisation of study activities.

Teaching takes the form of lectures, exercises with discussion of texts, images, tables, etc. and more participantcentred forms such as buzz groups and student presentations. There is the possibility of 1 writing exercise.

Method of assessment: Individual restricted take-home assignment.

The university teacher formulates one or more questions on the reviewed material to which the student responds in a take-home assignment in December/January. The questions must be answered based on the course examination syllabus and possibly one or more unknown texts that will be handed out together with the exam questions. The assignment can be written in either Spanish or Danish according to the student's own choice. An ability to clearly present and discuss the current questions is required, and the incorporation of relevant historical and geographical references is necessary.

Additional information

Taking into consideration the method of assessment, emphasis will be placed on the degree to which student presentations fulfil the learning objectives, as well as to what degree the student has mastered the general competence goals specified in §1, especially no.’s 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, which the subject particularly supports.

The grade is awarded in relation to the degree of fulfilment of the learning objectives as outlined in the Grading Scale Order. The evaluation pass/fail indicates whether the general and discipline-specific competences have, overall, been mastered to a sufficient degree.
