Mandatory prerequisites

Students must have passed no less than 70 ECTS on their bachelor’s or bachelor of Engineering degree within a relevant field of study, this also includes Computer Science and Data Science, before the summer school starts.

Recommended prerequisites

Basic understanding of software engineering and programming, gained for instance by completion of introduction courses to software engineering and programming

Learning objectives - Knowledge

After the course participants will be able to:

•Explain methods for AI automation in software engineering
•Compare software methods and tools targeting sustainability with other software engineering approaches
•Interpret software engineering methods and tools as means in an innovation process

Learning objectives - Skills

After the course participants will be able to:

•Construct software using AI automation in several phases of the software life-cycle
•Apply methods and tools for addressing the sustainability of software
•Utilize methods and tools in a small entrepreneurial software project 

Learning objectives - Competences

After the course participants will be able to:

•Demonstrate a mindset for using next generation software engineering in their work
•Recognise sustainable software development and adjust their own practices to adopt sustainable approaches
•Reflect on their own and team's performance and learning in an entrepreneurial setting

Content

This course provides a deep dive into next generation software engineering. New technologies are changing the capabilities of software engineers in several phases of the software life-cycle. It enables subject-matter experts to create applications, simplify complicated tasks, and reduce others to single commands. This new generation of technologies enables the next generation of software engineers to better develop and maintain software infrastructures that help our society to prosper and to address sustainability. The course brings together experts from Digital Research Centre Denmark to teach state-of-the-art knowledge coupled with practical insights. Specific coverage will be methods and technologies for implementing AI for software engineering, software engineering with sustainability in focus, and how to apply this in an entrepreneurial setting. The primary focus is on methods and tools and how to put these into practice among other based on DevOps methodologies. The course is designed to help students gain expertise and skills that can be directly applied in software development in industry.

  • The assessment method is portfolio. The portfolio is individual and consists of exercise journals and reviews.

The form of examination in the re-examination is the same as in the ordinary examination except the requirement of 80% attendance which is removed.

Additional information

Enrolment is limited to 30 students. If more applicants than places, applicants who meet the mandatory requirements are prioritized according to the below selection criteria:

  1. Engineering students from GMM who needs this specific summer course or 5 ECTS electives to graduate
  2. Engineering students from GMM (except the above)
  3. Other students from SDU-TEK provided the course is approved as an elective on their study programme
  4. Other students from SDU-NAT and SDU-SAMF with preapproval of credit transfer
  5. Other students from SDU with preapproval of credit transfer
Note: If further selection criteria are needed this will be based on a first-come-first-served basis. 

Please note that registration for this elective course is binding. However, we recommed you apply for de-registration of Summer School courses if you do not pass your exams in June, leaving you to register for re-exams in August. If you need to pass mandatory subjects from the 5th semester of your bachelor’s programme, you cannot register for the summer school course as a masters’s elective, as you can only take master’s electives once your bachelor’s degree has been completed.
