- understand possibilities and limitations in the use of 3D modeling for different hardware platforms, such as computers, tablets, and smartphones.
- thoroughly understand the technical possibilities for the implementation of ideas and concepts in a running 3D application
- understand the complexity of the genre “Serious Gaming” in order to explain its potentials and limitations.
Learning objectives - Skills
The student should be able to:
- use a modern development environment for the construction of advanced 3D computer games and simulations.
- program 3D applications at an advanced level.
- integrate standard solutions and program libraries in their applications.
- put together content and digital form.
- explain the interdependence between the application and its contents in an analytic as well as in a development oriented perspective
Learning objectives - Competences
The student should be able to:
- master iterative and incremental development of 3D applications.
- translate complex problems into advanced, dynamic 3D computer games and simulations.
- cooperate with partners from other fields of expertise.
Content
The course strengthens the students creative and technical competences in the field of development of 3D computer games and simulations. The students develop individually or in groups an advanced 3D application within the genre “Serious Gaming”. The students must include the knowledge which they have acquired by participating in the courses “3D Modeling for Computer Games and Simulations” (OK-TDM) and “Simulations and Computer Games” (OK-SCS) in the development of concepts and source code, but they are free to draw on other technologies, methods, and theories which are available at the Social Technology Lab. A running, digital application as well as a report, describing the product and the process should be handed in.
Main topics:
- conceptual and technical development of advanced 3D applications within the genre of “Serious Gaming”
